Almost two decades have elapsed since Kenya introduced Islamic banking. Rising demand for ethical solutions, plus policy and regulatory reforms has driven Shariah-compliance into conventional banks, food, insurance, tourism and even cosmetics. Is the time ripe for Kenya to extend Shariah Compliance into the health sector?

Hello, I’m Saade Abdallah, a freelance Kenyan public health consultant with over 25 years work experience. I’m thrilled to be in the 2025 Thought Leadership for Public Health Fellowship at the Boston Congress for Public Health.

My focus for this opportune fellowship is ‘Muslims for Health: Leaving: No Kenyan Behind.’

Kenya has an estimated 11% Muslim population. My independent review of 900 articles on “Health Research By and or On Muslims” revealed a blatant disconnect of Religion from Health. Of the 10% articles that examined the effect of religious factors on health, findings confirmed that Muslims view their health and health seeking behavior through an Islamic lens.

My podcast offers a unique platform for Kenya’s Muslim health professionals, policymakers, academicians, and clergy among others to discuss how to achieve ethical and equitable health care in line with Islamic principles and the Kenya Constitution.
