Associate Professor of Religious Studies

Hassan J. Ndzovu, an Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Moi University, Kenya. Has PhD in Religious Studies from University of Kwazulu Natal, South Africa in collaboration with University of Bayreuth, Germany. Held two postdoctoral positions: at Freie Universität Berlin (2013-214) and Northwestern University, USA (2009-2010). Since 2019, a Cluster Member of Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence of University of Bayreuth. His research interests focus on Islam in Africa, especially sub-Saharan Africa, and revolve around religion and politics/law, religious based conflict, Islamic education, religion and sexuality, and currently Islam and popular culture. Numerous publications include: Muslims in Kenyan Politics: Political Involvement, Marginalization and Minority Status. Northwestern University Press, 2014; co-authored with Laura Grillo S. and Adriaan van Klinken, Religions in Contemporary Africa: An Introduction. London: Routledge, 2019.
